Bigfoot

Footnotes are fun again, thanks to Bigfoot.

Inspired by the footnote style implemented in Instapaper1, Chris from Ottawa has whipped up2 a bunch of Javascript and CSS to create a footnote style that closely follows Instapaper’s lead.

The package is available from his website and you can also find a step-by-step tutorial of how to apply the software to your blog.

What can I say, it works like a charm. I liked the idea the moment I saw it for the first time and naturally couldn’t wait to put it on my site.

In my normal workday, I don’t have any exposure to web development3 and therefore situations like this are the perfect opportunity to spend a little bit of time in this world.

Bigfoot can be customized according to your personal style and I did a minimal amount of customization that seemed appropriate to me. Here are my settings:

Thanks, Chris!

  1. Fittingly, I came across Bigfoot while reading an article on Marco’s site.

  2. And this is meant by no means disrespectful.

  3. But let me assure you that I am absolutely not shy of angle brackets.
